Sleeping Queens Card Game - by Gamewright

Sleeping Queens is the card game that turns family game night into a royal race. Twelve whimsical queens, including the Pancake Queen and the Ladybug Queen, have been put under a sleeping spell, and it's up to 2 to 5 players aged 8 and up to wake them. Games take around 20 minutes, so it is easy to play one more round.

The game has a story every child will love: it was invented by 6-year-old Miranda Evarts one night when she couldn't fall asleep. With help from her sister and parents, her bedtime idea became an award-winning game now played by families around the world.

How to Play Sleeping Queens

The queens start face down in the centre of the table. On your turn, play a card from your hand to wake a queen, steal one from an opponent or protect your own. Every card has a job, and knowing when to use it is where the strategy comes in:

• Kings wake a sleeping queen from the centre
• Knights steal a queen from another player
• Dragons block a knight's attack
• Sleeping Potions send an opponent's queen back to sleep
• Wands protect against a sleeping potion
• Jesters are a gamble that might wake a queen for you or someone else

In a 2 to 3 player game, the first to collect 5 queens or 50 points wins. With 4 to 5 players, it's 4 queens or 40 points.

A Card Game That Builds Maths Skills

Number cards let players discard pairs or simple addition equations, such as 2 + 3 = 5, to draw fresh cards. Kids practise mental arithmetic without realising it, while remembering which queen is where builds memory and planning skills.
