The LEGO Jurassic World Baby Dinosaur: Pteranodon (77977) is a 373-piece brick-built model of a young flying reptile, designed for ages 7 and up. The finished build measures around 14 cm high, 20 cm wide and 17 cm deep. It is a creature-focused set rather than a scene, so there are no minifigures in the box.

A posable creature build

The Pteranodon is articulated rather than fixed. Its jaw opens, and the head, wings and legs all move, so the model can be arranged perched, feeding, or with the wings spread wide.

That range of movement is what makes it work as both a toy and a shelf piece. A child can play with it, then leave it displayed in whatever pose they finished on.

Key features

  • Brick-built baby Pteranodon in blue
  • Opening jaw
  • Movable head, wings and legs
  • Red squid accessory as its food
  • Approximately 14 x 20 x 17 cm when built

Why the 7+ rating

The construction uses smaller elements than the 4+ Jurassic World sets released alongside it, which is where the higher age rating comes from. It is still a straightforward build for a confident seven-year-old, and shorter than the piece count suggests because much of the count goes into the wing surfaces.

Set specifications

  • Set number: 77977
  • Piece count: 373
  • Recommended age: 7 years and up
  • Theme: LEGO Jurassic World
  • Minifigures: none

Who this set suits

Good for a child who is more interested in the animals than the vehicles or characters. It also combines well with the other Jurassic World sets in the same wave, giving them a flying creature the ground-based sets do not include.

Posing the wings

The wing joints hold their position under their own weight, so a spread-wing pose stays put on a shelf without support. Move them slowly at the joint rather than pulling from the wingtips, which puts strain on the connection.
