Goula Colour Forms – Wooden Shape Matching Game, Ages 3+

Colour Forms is a wooden shape matching game where children slot 22 coloured pieces onto a base to recreate the picture on an illustrated sheet. Eight double-sided sheets give sixteen designs in total, and once those are finished the base becomes a blank canvas for letters, numbers and inventions of their own. It is built for ages 3 and up.

Two ways to use it

The guided mode is straightforward: pick a sheet, fix it to the base with the wooden sticks, and fill the outlines with matching shapes. The freestyle mode removes the sheet entirely, and the included guide shows how to build every letter and digit from the same 22 pieces. Most children start guided and drift into freestyle within a few weeks.

Diagonals are the hard part

Parents often notice a child manages horizontal and vertical placements easily but stalls on diagonal lines. That is completely normal, because diagonal discrimination develops later than the other two. It is worth working through one diagonal design together rather than quietly skipping the sheets that use them.
